I just told him what I wanted, and what if I hate it?” she laughs. But the risk paid off — the home turned out exactly as she imagined, maybe even better.
A Living Room That Breathes
According to Jennifer, her living room is the heart of the house, as it is the biggest and most used room in the home. It is designed with wide openings that allow natural light to flow in while capturing what she calls the California ideal: “Having these doors all the way wide open. Here we have it — indoor, outdoor. This isn’t California, I don’t know what is.”
The walls of her living room display art that’s deeply personal, like a painting by Reiner Andreesen, the husband of actor Victor Garber, who happens to be Garner’s longtime friend and on-screen father in Alias. “There’s a little photograph of Victor and me painted into the painting,” she said, smiling. “It’s extra special and dear to me.”

“This is the first time ever that the counter has been clean,” she jokes in the tour. “Look, it’s never going to look like this again.” It’s such a candid moment — no pretense, just honesty about family life and a well-used kitchen.
As we know, Garner is also a hands-on mom. “Here alone with my kids on a weekend, I can’t tell you how often I make something and I’m just feeding them as it comes off the stove,” she says. “It’s all out of order, but they don’t seem to mind at all.”
There’s also a special area dedicated to baking — one of her favorite hobbies. She says, “It just makes it so much easier to have it all in one place and to know where your different flours are — and your chocolate chips, too. Chocolate chips are the most important thing in the whole house,” she laughs. (You see why people love her?)

The dining room also reflects the theme of relaxed comfort. Garner explains, “We really eat at home almost all the time, and we eat in here pretty regularly.” The space, filled with warm light and fine art photography by Laura Porzac, doubles as a meeting room when she’s working from home.
Garner even jokes about her design choices: “I can never figure out dining room lights. But you know what? It is painted a deep gray-blue, lined with books and cozy seating. “I wanted a library that is a super awesome, cozy-up-with-everyone TV room,” she says. “This is everyone’s favorite place. You just don’t need some huge old screening room — we’re pretty happy just being right in here.”

If we talk about the outside of Jennifer Garner’s house, it has a deep connection to nature and her upbringing as a farmer’s daughter. “This is my little orchard,” she says proudly, showing trees bearing apricots, figs, cherries, peaches, apples, and more. “They are all fed by graywater because water is hard to come by in California, and I don’t want to use more than my share.”
She explains how her graywater system collects and filters water from the dishwasher and washing machine to grow her garden. “Pretty much everything here is edible,” she says. “All of the bushes are blueberry bushes. Actually, I’m going to get you a blueberry — I see one.”
There’s also a charming vegetable house filled with herbs, tomatoes, and green beans — all grown organically. “My kids and I love kale chips, so we always have a lot of them,” she says.
Spaces of Rest and Reflection
Upstairs, the warmth continues. There’s a study space for her children, including a small fish tank and a cozy reading nook — perhaps the most emotionally resonant space in the tour. “There was one magical night where exactly what I hoped for happened,” she recalls. “All three of my kids were piled in there with me, and we pulled down all the books from when they were little, and we read them one after another.”
Her bedroom, meanwhile, is intentionally compact. She said, “I just wanted something that felt tight, compact. It’s not a space that I needed a ton of room devoted to.” Beside her bed sits Tee Bear, a stuffed animal her father gave her when she was three. “My mom made him some overalls,” she says affectionately.
