He was also a president of Screen Actors Guild and best known for television and film from the early 1950s just before his death in 2006. Today we gonna talk about Billy Dennis Weaver House. Dennis Weaver’s house is also known as the Weaver House or the Earthship located in Ridgeway, Colorado. I was really struck by how much the building said about the man yourself, not just a television actor but as someone who cared deep about the environment and the designs. That is not just a backdrop; it is a statement that shows his lifestyle.
Dennis Weaver’s house is located 4 miles away from Ridgeway in Ouray County, Colorado. This house is also referred to as Sunridge. Designed by architect Michael Renault and headed by Dennis and his wife Gerry.
This house was built into a south-facing slope that uses recycled materials like thousands of mud-filled tires and tens of thousands of aluminium cans that feature passive solar design and thick adobe walls.
The beauty and the underlying sustainability of this house echo Weaver’s own transition: from anchor sidekick to environmental activist. The house becomes a kind of biography itself made from bricks and tires.
Why Does the house stand out so much?
What’s really unique in this house is the way the home merges celebrity lifestyle with ecological consciousness.
Some of the standout features include:
- The walls are made up of recycled tires packed with earth and thousands of cans, giving a lot of thermal mass and insulation.
- This home is largely all earth-sheltered but uses the sun and the earth itself for heating and cooling both.
- Dennis Weaver was hands-on. He actually did considerable labour on the build, for example using a draw knife on beetle-kill logs for vigas, and embraced the home’s function as a greenhouse and organic living space.

My take on this…
I actually haven’t visited the house in person, but it feels more strong to me because it feels authentic. It doesn’t feel like a superficial celebrity home with a lot of luxury items in it, but it feels more like a home with purpose crafted by someone who challenged what a house could be to make a sustainable living.
To me, the Weaver House stands out as a metaphor for building a life that’s more than just what’s on the screen and more than fame and roles. This is also about values, sustainability, and living thoughtfully.
He left because after nine seasons playing Chester Goode he wanted to expand his career, take on leading roles, and not remain the “second banana”

He died from complications of cancer, more precisely prostate cancer.
Dennis Weaver was born June 4, 1924 and died February 24, 2006 at the age of 81.
